Problem Solving

Hey Leaders!!!

The new year has come and many of us are trying to live up to the expectations that we have imposed upon ourselves.  So how is it going?  I'm getting there on some of my resolutions but really need work on some others (COUGHjoggingCOUGH).  I will be praying that you are able to reach your goals for this coming year.  Please feel free to share those with me, I'd really like to know what they are.

Speaking of goals, I want us to keep in mind our goal to make Vibe a safe and fun environment for our students.  In the Fall we talked about our Discipline Process and set in motion some steps to keep Vibe a great place to go on Wednesdays.  As a reminder, here is the process:

1) VERBAL WARNING –Approach student and...

  • Be specific on what you are asking them to do.  ("Put your cell phone away and face the front, stop talking loudly and pay attention.").
  • Warn them about the next step.

2) PULL ASIDE – (5 minutes)

  • Take them out of “the space”/ where we are worshipping and sit them down beside the coffee bar where the couches are for five minutes.
  • ALWAYS take another leader with you.
  • Be clear but don’t get angry.  Ask them if they are okay and tell them what the next step will be.

3) SIT OUT / SEND HOME (write it down on the "Discipline" card provided)

  • Remind them that you have talked to them twice before.
  • Take them to the same area by the coffee bar and let them know they will be there for the remainder of the evening.  (Bring another leader with you.)
  • Have them fill out a card so that Matt can contact their parents.
  • Let them know, that Matt will contact their parents.
  • Don’t let friends hang out with them or let them play any games.
  • Let Matt know about the situation as soon as possible.

*THINGS TO REMEMBER

  • Matt is the only person that can send students home.
  • Never get angry.  You hold all of the cards.
  • Always be firm and clear.
  • If a student is pulled out of the program for an entire night 3 times, they will be asked to sit the next week out completely.
  • If they have been asked to sit out of the service a grand total of six times, they will be asked not to come back unless a parent is with them.

If you forget these steps, don't worry.  I will have printed cards available at the front kiosk by next week.  These cards include the steps but also have an area for you to fill out for students if they have to sit out for the night.  I appreciate all that you guys are doing and look forward to seeing you next week.
